“Our Country’s Good” was written by Timberlake Wertenbaker and is based on Thomas Keneally's novel “The Playmaker.” Richard St. Peter is the director.

The play is set in Australia in 1789. A young married lieutenant is directing rehearsals of the first play ever to be staged in that country. With only two copies of the text, a cast of convicts and one leading lady who may be about to be hanged, conditions are hardly ideal. Based on a true story, “Our Country’s Good” is a love letter to the theatre and a thrilling account of the struggle to start a new life in a new world.
