Steel Magnolias Playwright to Present "The Story Behind the Story"

October 18, 2019

Natchitoches, LA - Robert "Bobby" Harling, the screenwriter of Steel Magnolias, will tell "the story behind the story" at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum during Natchitoches' Blush and Bashful Weekend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of the film.

Harling will present at 2:00 p.m. at the Sports Hall of Fame, located at 800 Front Street in Natchitoches. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Harling, a Natchitoches native, wrote the play just months after his sister, Susan, died of complications from Diabetes. Through the play, he was able to pay tribute to his sister, his mother, and the women who walked along side them during that season of their life.

Other events taking place during the Blush and Bashful Weekend include the showing of the movie at Parkway Cinema Nov. 8-14, the unveiling of the Natchitoches Film Trail, a kid-friendly Easter Egg Hunt in Beau Jardin, a character look-a-like contest on the Riverbank Stage, Shelby's wedding reception at the Steel Magnolia House B&B, a Dolly look-a-like contest at Cane River Brewing Company, a Blush and Bashful Brunch at the Prud'homme-Rouquier House, and Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
